Escola Comporta

Have you ever thought about returning to school? If you know Escola (the school in English) the answer is surely ‘Yes’.

Half way between Alcácer do Sal and Comporta, in Cachopos, there’s an old elementary school building which was turned into a restaurant.

A wood desk and a blackboard are still there to remind us of its original purpose.

The Escola restaurant in Comporta is distinguished by the traditional home-like cooked food from Alentejo.

The dishes are representative of the peasants gastronomy and carry a nostalgic feeling of grandma’s cooking in quality and proportion.

Carrot and rabbit salads are a suggestion to begin a meal.

To follow there is an array of delicacies like the fried eels with tomato bread soup, rabbit pie, lamb stew and several game recipes.

The dessert menu is heaven for those who have a sweet tooth.

Old abbey confectionary specialities, like Encharcada or local pine nut custard, are to die for.

The Wine cellar has more than 100 references, mainly from Alentejo region.

Expect to end the meal with a farewell offer of a surprising acorn liquor that is used as a digestive.

There is a free parking lot for clients.

Due to high demand, it is advisable to book a table at weekends and during Summer.
